Cleaning Your Pontoons

A clean, gleaming boat always commands a better price. If you’re ready to put a pontoon boat on the used market, one step you can take is cleaning the pontoons. While you’re at it, you can clean any other exposed aluminum and boost your curb appeal.

Hopefully, you’ve been cleaning your pontoons casually throughout the year and giving them a good seasonal cleaning when they’re out of the water. To restore the pontoons to a fresh, shiny appearance, use an aluminum cleaning solution. We always recommend that you check your owner’s manual or consult with the manufacturer to make sure that you’re using a compatible product.

Clean Your Cover

Most pontoon boats have a cover to protect against the elements and keep the furniture and upholstery clean. Take a hose and a soft-bristled brush to your cover and clean it thoroughly, especially all seams and folds. No matter how pretty the boat is, you also want it to look good when it’s covered.

Clean Your Upholstery

One reason people love pontoon boats is that they have all that seating. It’s kind of like a patio crossed with a boat. This makes for an incredibly comfortable ride, but it also means that pontoon boats have lots more upholstery than most vessels, so it really pays to make sure it looks good. Use a marine vinyl cleaner, and always dry your upholstery thoroughly after cleaning to discourage mildew.
