Why the Twin Vee 280 GFX2 Rides So Smooth

Twin Vee calls it "The Best Riding Boat on the Water." This one is rigged to prove it.

The 280 GFX2 wasn't built to look tough at the dock. It was built for the days the forecast says two-to-fours and everybody else turns around. Two hulls trap a cushion of air between them, so instead of pounding through Gulf chop the 280 slices it, runs flat with almost no bow rise, and lands soft. Stop on a rip and it barely rocks – the buoyancy sits out on the edges, not under your feet. That's the power-cat advantage, and it's the reason your crew still wants to go next weekend.

Twin Vee 280 GFX2 Power and Performance

Power is a pair of Mercury Verado 300 V8s in Cold Fusion White – 600 horsepower of the smoothest, quietest big outboards on the market. Mercury's own test numbers on this hull and power: 57 mph wide open, 25 mph at 3,000 rpm burning 2 mpg, and roughly 460 miles of range out of the 230-gallon tanks. In plain terms: Venice to the floaters and back with fuel to spare, and a 0–30 hole shot in about 5.4 seconds when the birds are working.

Twin Vee 280 GFX2 Helm and Electronics

The helm is a command center. Dual Garmin 12" 1243xsv displays, Fantom 18x solid-state radar, Garmin Reactor 40 autopilot tied to SeaStar Optimus electric-hydraulic steering, an Airmar B175M 1kW thru-hull transducer, and a Garmin VHF 115. The Fusion audio system – 10" sub, six speakers, and an 8-channel JL amp – will run you off the boat before you find the volume limit. Full-spectrum LED underwater lights for the night bite.

Twin Vee 280 GFX2 Fishability and Comfort

Fishability is 360 degrees: in-deck macerated fish boxes, a livewell with an 800 GPH pump, under-gunnel rod storage, screwless stainless rod holders plus transom Euro holders, outrigger pads, and raw- and fresh-water washdowns off a 13-gallon tank. Overhead is a molded fiberglass hardtop with a 3-sided enclosure, electronics box, recessed LED lighting, and two 10,000+ lumen light bars.

When the family comes along: bolstered captain's seating, a full bow bench, a coffin-box lounge, fold-down stern seating, a walkthrough transom, and a freshwater marine head with macerator inside the console. Two-tone white and Flint Grey upholstery on a Whisper Grey hull. Four 2,000 GPH bilge pumps, a 3-bank charger, and a battery management panel keep it all honest.
